Resequencing refers to the sequencing of a genome from a member of a species that has already had another genome sequenced from a different member of that species. The first genome sequenced will most likely be through de novo technique. However, the second genome will use the first genome as a reference and not need to be sequenced de novo. This is done by mapping the second genome onto the first genome.
