Pectinatella Magnifica

Found via WikiCommons Source: Oeuvre (

Pectinatella magnifica are non-native to the Pacific Northwest. Fish and Wildlife have expressed concern over the increase of the organism in northern waterbodies. The bryozoan grow in the spring and early fall in the warm waters; they require a water temperature of approximately 60 degrees Farenheit to grow. When the Pectinatella grown in large masses they form blooms which can clog pipes and clear the water to an unhealthy level. The seeds of the bryozoan are hook shaped and easily transported by animals to neighboring waterbodies. With the negative effects of the non-native organism in native waters, the Fish and Wildlife's greatest fear is of the spread of Pectinatella.
