A model organism represents a group of organisms in the same family or phyla. Usually, they are more genetically tractable, easy to grow with observable phenotypes. For example, Phylum apicomplexa consists of Plasmodium and cryptosporidium. But Toxoplasma gondii , also from the same phyla serves as a model organism as it is relatively receptive to gene manipulations.
