GWAS - Genome Wide Association Studies.

This is the study of the genetic variants associated with certain diseases with a focus on SNPs. To study the variants, DNA of a person with the disease is compared to a similar person without the disease. This is helpful in finding genetic commonalities among a diseased population. A SNP that has a higher occurrence among the diseased is thought to be associated with the disease. [Wikipedia]
