Let's get started

Instructor's notes and plans for classEdit

Course GoalsEdit

  1. A new, and somewhat experimental, course
  2. Examine genetics from the genomic and metagenomic perspective.
  3. => Learn to do genetics with enormously more data
  4. Learn to cope with vast amounts of data
  5. Learn to evaluate and access information sources
  6. Do all of the above in a highly collaborative and open manner, while using the instructor and textbook as resources.
  7. Together, by the end of the semester, we will have built a website that documents all of our contributions to understanding genetics and genomics

Course structureEdit

  1. The Wikipedia model: (1) Wikipedia as a universal information source, (2) Learning through collaborative editing.
  2. Everything you learn goes on the course wiki
  3. Everything on the wiki can be edited by others
  4. Your course grade is determined by your portfolio of contributions in class and on the wiki
